Accommodation on Corfu Island

How really to rent studio, apartments or villa on Corfu Island?

    Basically all is very simple. Having the visa and ticket on a airplane, you arrive in Kerkira, there, at the airport, you hire the car approximately dollars for 40-50 per day, load in it your luggadge and go, where you plan to accommodate. A pair or triple of hours you will search the apartments, and you will find what it is pleasant to you.  The next day you will return the car there, where you have taken it. When it will be necessary to go back, you will order a radiotaxi (20 - 30 dollars). It is clear, that you have to be quite brave for starting your jorney by such method - (you may ask yourself "What i'll do, if the car will not manage to be leased?", and "If your plane will retard till the evening - where to spend the night?", etc. If such fears overcome in your mind, it is possible to address to the one who will supply to you the guaranteed meeting and will select apartments for you (see below).

However for the russians  the much more important problem is the visa and the air tickets. The Greek embassy in Moscow since the last year issues Shengen visas. Basically visa can be received you independently, especially if to take care of it beforehand, up to a hot season. It is necessary to go to embassy, to take the list of the documents, to issue them and to pay a consular due about 25 dollars for visa. However it is required invitation from Greek tourist agency, or invitation of the Greek citizen certified of police. Hardly somebody, except for good familiar, will go in Greek  Police to make out for you the invitation. Hardly will go on it for the unfamiliar person and in a travel company: they are afraid of troubles in case of contingencies. Are afraid for the license, is shorter. We passed it. Generally Greeks, on our impression, there is enough in law.

    If the economies on the ticket are not so interested for you, you can depart by regular trips of a type "Olympic Airlines" up to Athenes, and then from Athenes up to Kerkyra (but you must take into account, that in Athenes two airports - from Moscow you arrive to one, and in Kerkyra it will be necessary to fly from other).

    Certainly, the cheapest method to reach somewhere is to sit on the car, to start the motor and to go. In the summer on Corfu Island  about half of cars have italian numbers, frequently meets also British numbers. Russian numbers we never there did not see. In the following summer (2000) we shall try to reach there on the car (IWWSAL, as spoke Lev Tolstoy, - if we shall be alive, monitor behind our adventures).
