In general the Saint Spiridon's Day - a protector Corfu Island - is 12 of September. But it  seems for me that from the excess of feelings and for tourists a Day of Saint Spiridon (Spiros) Greeks celebrate once (mayby twice) in the Summer. We have got it on 11 august 1999. This was an Wednesday. Else from the evening the communist Spiros and his wife Philippine Myrna have warned us, that tomorrow, at six o'clock, we will go to Corfu-Town on the holiday. We have to go so early for to occupy a place on the pay parking. Apropos, parking place costs 400 drachmas (1.3 dollars) and does not depend on a time - you may to park your car for a half an hour, but if you want for 5 hours. Really we have went just a little later and in the half of eighth in the morning we were on Liston - the central area of city, by quarter placed by tables of a lot of cafes.

There are so much Folk on streets and  in the cafe, approximately as much as before the start of an  demonstrations. Indeed that in all is similar much like demonstration or parade in the provincial borough in Soviet Union, only without the tribune with leaders, along which pass pillars of labor groups. As far as we had some time, we have peek in the  Saint Spiridon Church before the beginning of procession, good it beside. However and majority of Greeks peeked there. Just a   little we have surprised by procedure of installing the candles: their a lot of candles, so special monk crudely, on-soviet manner, forces folk back and shovels right before alight candles in the box for the smelting. Well, if personnel candle may stay about 10 seconds. Maybe the concept of folk, as "bydlo", have had birth indeed in Greece together with the concept of the democracy.

Shortly we have seen absolutely transparent morning and even a coffee and a cigarette seems absolutely unnecessary, because all was at most well. The "motion" have to start at ten o'clock and will pass around   Liston Square about an hour. In the end of process the monks stepped with rattletrap with powers holy.
