Sports on Corfu  Island.

Being in Greece only in summer,  and seeing empty on the sun-heat stadiums, it is difficult to check that Greece is native land of Olympiads. Between that, the Greeks are appreciable in sports now also. It is possible to assume, that they attend to sports in the autumn or winter, when the tourists will go away, and it is nothing to do especially, unless to collect the olives or to build cottages. But we, who are coming on the Island from Northern countries, sometimes we want to attend the sports in summer also. Infortunately,  in Greece, as, however, in all the remaining capitalist world, there are no readily available volleyball and "other" sites, where "having a rest" could play volleyball, football or badminthon. However for money just much kinds of sports will e offered to you.

Cricket.

Together with roads, which are just good, the Englishmen have kept a cricket after themselves on the Island. The Cricket Team of Corfu Island today is one from best in the world. But it seems for my that there are only 3 Cricket Teams on the Globe. India has precisely. Naval British Fleet has. Corfu Island has. If you know another, please, write me by e-mail.

However, being in Corfu-Town, do not be too lazy and go in the day on Liston and look up, as on the green lawn the teenagers play cricket. You will understand just much in a character of the Greeks. They put in this play the approximately same passion, what the Italians put in football, and Russian put in girls or in vodka. By the way, in Liapades (it is near to Paleokastritsa, 4 or 6 kilometers) in 200 meters from the beach you find "Tavern of Cricket Club". The walls of it are covered up by the photos about a Cricket history on the Island.

Golf.

In a central part of the Island along western, "italian" shore of it on a distance in some kilometers separated from the sea by low mountains, the valley Ropa lasts. So magic place, that on Russian maps and in the tourist guides it  is designated not simply, as "valley", but "a natural valley Ropa". What else valleys are, how not natural? However it is clear that to tell about Ropa simply "a valley" - all the same that to tell about back of lovely woman - "back". The word, in the southend of Ropa valley locates one from the best Golf fields in Europe. We know the Italians, family pair, but, maybe, not family, who come evety year in a middle of a summer on corfu Island for two weeks speially to play Golf for. Each day since morning they load the basket with Golf sticks in "LendRover", then they go in Golf Club and return only by evening, tired, but pleased. If you love this game, the places are better, than I simply do not know a better place. You see, of course, that I never have been in in royal Golf clubs.

Tennis.

All is right with tennis on the Island: there are a lot of tennis courts. Almost any hotel (but the hotels of high categories - all) has tennis court. The truth, if you love tennis, came in tourist agency and have selected hotel with tennis court, than ask on it - you can be deceived severely. Court to court are different. In one hotel you'll find an asphalt site on the top of a mountain, where even the bench for rest stands on sun-heat, as in hotel " Aeolos Beach Hotel" in Perama. Absolutely other kind - a site with special cover in olive shadow, in 30 meters from the beach closely to a bar, as in "Akron Tennis Club " near to "Akrotiri Beach Hotel" in Paleokastritsa. By the way, there is tennis club inside Corfu-Town practically at centre.
